The Early Light …

January 20th, 2010

The early light, had hoot through the house’s window
like seeds falling out of your hand
in the the motion of a humming symphony.

Candace Blog Post for Halloween

November 3rd, 2009

thb-091103-jsm-pumpkin-day

Hello everyone, I am also a JSM. My name is Candace and I have been a JSM since the end of the summer. It’s the week of Halloween, and the Halloween season is definitely bringing more life into the Tree house. We’ve painted pumpkins, ate candy, and did almost everything associated with Halloween.

Tomorrow, we’re having a Halloween Party (Isn’t that Soooo Coool?)

Also, on Saturday we went to go see the movie “Where The Wild Things Are.” It was awesome!!!! I even cried – it was so great, and when I say “great” I mean everything great and perfect.

In “Where the Wild Things Are.” – Max searched for his safe place.

First he made an Igloo and a fort. Then, he went to where the wild things are. Finally, he found out his safe place is home.

On Tuesday, the JSM group also was working on finding a safe place like “Where the Wild Things Are” and our reading group book “Crash.”

My safe place is my room in the Tree House – they both have a lovely atmosphere.

This is what we did during the past two weeks.
Bye,
Candace

Tree House Book’s First Official Blog Entry

October 19th, 2009

Tree House Book’s First Official Blog Entry!
Hello and Welcome to the Tree House Books Blog Spot! My name is Danielle Mancinelli, and I am currently the Junior Staff Member Coordinator at Tree House Books!

The JSM Program at Tree House is designed to provide North Central Philadelphia youth with the opportunity to participate in a leadership program in which young adults are trained for skills that will assist them in future educational and employment opportunities. The program incorporates reading groups, writing workshops, tutoring, business training, and now has expanded to include web-site training / blog writing!

Each week, a JSM will update the blog to keep you posted on the happenings at Tree House Books!

Last week, the JSMs created their definitions of what Tree House Books means to them:

Tree House Books is a fun place to be. Its atmosphere is filled with love and kindness. When you come to Tree House you come to learn, but when you learn here we make it fun. When we work with the children we help grow their knowledge. We finish up with what they do in school. It’s like the school plants the seed, the parents are the water, and THB is the sun.
- Candace Watson

Tree House Books is a place where you can read. It is a fun place. You can do research. There are books from youth to teens. I come here to read books, do my homework, and do my projects.
- Destiny Payton

Although Tree House Books is a store, it is also fun. Tree House Books is about kids coming here to get help with their homework. It’s also having neighborhood kids come and learn even after school hours, and the staff is very nice and helpful.
- Nona Watson

Tree House books,
It looks like a lot of people,
I smell books,
I feel a pen,
I hear people reading,
I taste air.
- Christian Holmes

Tree House Books is when kids come in to get help with their homework. Also, it’s when children get to help each other, and love and care for one another.
- Michael Wright

The JSMs traveled to West Philadelphia and shared their definitations at a special dinner party, hosted by THB Board Member Rob Balazs. They did an exceptional job representing THB, and were strong leaders.

Thank you for visitng, and next week you’ll hear from our special guest who is an experienced blog writer!
